FOR INSIDE THE STAFF CARRY, IT IS AN EXCELLENT
SURVIVAL AND FIRE STARTING TOOL.
The Fire Steel is set into a handmade stainless
steel handle, with a screw for attaching and storing it inside the Staff. Slip
the cover over the Fire Steel when putting it away. To get the cover
off grab it lightly and give it a twist as you pull. It has an
overall length of about 5 3/4" and the strikers part is 3/8" X 2 1/2
to 2 3/4".
The Fire Starter will store inside the Staff in two
places with out sliding around. The connector and the inside of the
bottom tip is tapped and threaded so that you can store it in
either of these two places.
You will need right tender to start a fire. Dryer lint
is good, cotton ball soaked in petroleum jelly, or scrapings of dry wood
work well. Practice with different items.
Use a carbon
based steel, such as a knife blade, we like using the back edge so not
to burn the cutting edge of the knife, press down hard and scrape.
Different scraper materials will give different results so practice with
different material until you find the one that works best for you. We
use the back edge of the Staff blade. Press down hard and scrape.
General if you don't get good sparks it is because you aren't pressing
hard enough when you scrape.
Be aware that Fire Steels
give off a shower of very hot sparks that are 5500 degrees F (3000
degrees C). As with all flammable material, you must use extreme
caution when using this product . If you are under the age of 18 or you
